Designed by Koichi Futatsumata in 2019, the Kiulu Bench combines Finnish and Japanese bathing culture references into a minimal, dual-purpose object that functions as both seating and storage.

Materials & Sustainability

The Kiulu Bench is constructed entirely from birch, with a vivid red lacquer finish that adds character while preserving the wood’s durability. This monomaterial concept supports circular design principles and makes the bench easy to maintain. Inspired by sauna buckets and bath stools, it embodies practical design and cultural exchange.
