Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, born in Quimper, France, in 1971 and 1976 respectively, studied at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Cergy Pontoise, respectively. Ronan began working alone immediately after his training, assisted by his brother, who was still in training.
